2009 Kenting Trip Day 2

Kenting Trip
2009.9.30
Day 2:

Today was mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Luckily when I woke up the next morning, I could clearly see a rainbow from the window. The scenery is beautiful. I hope time can stop at that moment.

We drove to Nanwan (南灣) and stopped at a local breakfast stall. It was recommended by the backpackers from travel forum. Sandwiches and omelettes were yummy. There are different types of omelettes and sandwiches you can choose. I seldom have chance to eat such different style of breakfast in Hong Kong. I like it!

After the breakfast, we went to National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (國立海洋生物博物館). It is divided into three main areas: Waters of Taiwan, Coral Kingdom Pavilion, Waters of the World. There are some attractive spots within the museum. You can see some whale models made with equal proportion at Whales-Whale water square. Walking along the 81 meters long underwater tunnel, the biggest one in Asia, is amazing. Kelp Forest Tank here is bigger than other marine museums I visited in other countries. Wandering around the museum we had so much fun.

At noon, we need to attend a short briefing in Kenting National Park Headquarters. The briefing was last for about 20min introducing the history, environment and the rules prior to entering Longkeng ecological protection areas (龍坑生態保護區). You can choose the time and period of briefing by logging into the website and get registration (www.ktnp.gov.tw). Besides Longkeng, Nanjen Shan (南仁山) are another ecological protection areas open for visitors in Kenting National Park.  We decided to visit Longkeng tomorrow. Then, we headed back to Nanwan for lunch. We tried other traditional Taiwanese food, braised pork’s knuckles (滷豬腳) and braised pork rice this time. You can’t skip these kinds of food when you traveled in Taiwan. They are yummy!

Water sports were not available because of the weather. Someone suggested go carting. It was not a bad idea, just for fun. Late afternoon, we headed to Guanshan (關山), one of the scenic spots in Hengchun. We had tea and coffee at a local café, named 田庄所在, and played poker games there. It was a nice place for watching the sunset although it was cloudy that day. It was interesting we found out that a Taiwanese idol TV drama, tilted My Lucky Star, was filmed there in 2007.

Seafood for dinner

This night we had seafood for dinner. For example, oysters, steamed fish, fried squid balls and sashimi. You must try some dishes with fresh vegetables in Taiwan. It is more delicious than in Hong Kong because most of the food in Hong Kong is imported.
